Counting blessings

The last day of the year, and I come across many problems with my various hats on.  Not problems created by Government, although I can see where some movement would make a difference to some.  I only hope that people can have some help to change the course of difficulties in the coming year.
By the time I get into Stockton High Street Meynell's lovely cheeses have all been packed away, and M and S's shelves were nearly bare in some sections.  Sainsbury's at Whithouse Farm has lots of people and more bare shelves - there must be a famine coming along that nobody has told me about.  What a good job I can phone John to try to local Co-op at home.  What is even better is that these are very minor problems indeed to those so many have to endure.
A message comes though that residents in part of the ward are very cross indeed about a series of cuts to the electricity supply.  This happened some years ago, and it seems nothing is getting any better, and residents are right that the infrastructure is just not good enough.  Something to tackle next year when systems start moving again, but any ideas how to tackle NEDL ?
So now for trying out some rather unusual recipes I've put together with ingredients I've got, thankful I've got the food in, warmth, and hoping the oven works !
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year

New readers begin here

This is just a brief overview with some more information about me, that was in my previous Readmyday Blog.
I am a Councillor for Bishopsgarth and Elm Tree Ward, along with Cllr Julia Cherrett, on Stockton Council.  I've been first a Liberal and then Liberal Democrat since 1974 and am active in Stockton Liberal Democrats and am President of the North East Region Liberal Democrats.
Married to husband John, who is also a Councillor of Eaglescliffe, and  Parish Councillor here too.
I've a lovely family who live near York.  My son Alex who is married to Sarah, with our grandchildren Jack and Heidi - and yes, they are the best in the world!
I am a member of Egglescliffe Parish Church.  Also I do voluntary advice work with a national organisation and have done so for around 36 years now.
You will read quite a bit about Fairtrade activities.  I am also involved in the John Owens Trophy, and support Justice First.
I am writing a book about Brass Crosby.  Many of the references are on the Readmyday website and will probably be deleted, but there is a link here that gives you research as up to a few years ago.  Briefly Brass Crosby was born in Stockton in 1725, went on to become Lord Mayor of London in 1770, and in 1771 had a battle with Parliament on the right of the press to publish what was said in Parliament.  He was sent to the Tower of London because of his stand - but the result was that ever since, the press have had that freedom.
I don't like technology, I do wish it would do what I want (and this is the second typing of this as the first disappeard), but I try to manage a blog.  I have a not too active facebook page too.
I am Yorkshire born and bred and love the Yorkshire countryside, but Eaglescliffe is now my home and I feel strongly about promoting what a good place to live, work and play it is.
I have a lot of passions and interests - read about it on the blog !

Christmas Eve

Papers and some files are tidied and group meetings booked in - but that is it for politics !   The Christmas tree is up (it only fell down once), presents finally wrapped and under.  The Frumenty is almost ready.  What is Frunenty you might ask ?  It is an old North Yorkshire custom to eat it on Christmas Eve, and has been called "gruel with its best clothes on", meaning it it kibbled wheat, cooked very slowly indeed all day with skimmed milk, and then you can add what you fancy - cream, run, brandy, honey, dried fruit, spices.  You get the idea, but only if you live very near do you get a taste !  Then off to Midnight Mass at St John's, Egglescliffe, and ready for Christmas Day and what it really means.
I don't know if I have any readers on this new blog, and this is not a typical posting - but if you are out there best wishes for a very happy christmas,

As the fallout of the imposters at MPs surgeries continues, and do see hypocrisy in the air.  I could tell you of the many, many comments and complaints that Labour Councillors have told me about how they have felt about each other.  I have lost count of how many have told me, in the days when we had lots of votes as everything not stitched up before hand, one of them has not come up to me and said how they had not wanted to vote the way they did but had to.  I am not going to repeat these stories, they were shared with me on a basis of one human being to another, but snowballs in glass houses comes to mind !
On a happier note it was time to take out the "No2ID" sticker out of the car, here I am in Sainsbury's Whitehouse Farm (in the ward I represent) car park taking it out.  Hooray.
On a sadder note I've just posted my last entry on my about to disappear blog at http://www.readmyday.co.uk/suzannefletcher, so if you want to know more about what I've been doing have a look before it disappears on 1st January.

Bye bye ID cards

Wednesday 22nd December.  Last night in the Lords at 9.49 pm Royal Assent was notified to the
Identity Documents Act. All existing ID cards are now cancelled within one
month, and the National Identity Register database will be destroyed
within two months. This saves £835 million in planned future expenditure.
I repeat - £835 million.  What cuts would Labour have had to make to recoup that money ?
So now to take out the "NO2ID Cards" sticker out of the car - or I would if not quite as much snow around !
PS just started this blog, so a few days behind - sorry !

Shock headline

Tuesday 21st December.  "Liberal Democrat MPs tell truth to constituents" now have we seen that headline in any of the papers ?  No of course not, but that is what is happening, but then that would be favourable to Lib Dems and the media don't want to do that.
The fact that people told lies as to who they were to produce some newspaper headlines is conveniently forgotten.  As is the fact that MPs surgeries are there for real people with real problems, and undercover agents are wasting that surgery time.
